Mrs. Fumiko Leamy
Hello, and welcome to the Second Grade page! My name is Mrs. Leamy, and I am excited to begin the 2022-2023 school year!
I spent five years teaching in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, where I received excellent training and mentoring. Because I have taught first and third grade before, I feel right at home in second grade.
I came back to St. Joseph School to be closer to home, but I feel very blessed to be teaching in my own parish. Life is more simple when work and personal life parallel each other. I believe in educating the whole child, and the fact that my daughter graduated from St. Joseph School and Salesian High School, is a testament to my belief in Catholic education.
In the classroom, I set high expectations for my students, but strive to create a safe, nurturing environment to foster enduring positive attitudes about learning. I use many instructional strategies so that every student can experience success. Students learn to set learning goals and reflect upon their work—they acquire a growth mindset. With the growth mindset, “I can’t do it” is rephrased with “I can’t do it yet.” The power of “yet” is remarkable.
I have a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and California Multiple Subjects Credential from California State University, East Bay. I have a clear credential and an English Learner Authorization. I also have an associate’s degree in fashion design from FIDM, and teaching is my second career. I ddin’t discover my love for teaching young children until when I was in my forties!
I thank you in advance for entrusting me with your most precious possession. We’ll have a great year, but equally certain is that COVID-19 will challenge us. However, through Mrs. A’s leadership and close communication with you, we will successfully partake in educating your child.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Leamy
